Gastric Bypass | 2015 My Life Before Bariatric Surgery At age 48, my weight was preventing me from living the life I wanted to live. I was making excuses not to go and do things, my career was being affected, and I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I was embarrassed and ashamed of my physical condition. I needed help! |
Making the Decision
I began to confide in a close friend and family about my over-all health and ill feeling. I expressed an interest to explore weight loss surgery. All of my confidants were supportive of my curiosity. I began to research surgical options and locations. I discovered Barix and went to an informational seminar.
The day of the consultation was the first day of the rest of my life. After the group presentation, I spoke privately with the surgeon. He listened to me, to my concerns, questions, fears and history of weight loss (and regain) throughout my life. Together, we made a surgical choice that fit my needs physically and emotionally—gastric bypass surgery. From that first conversation, the trust began. Three months later, I had surgery and have never regretted the decision.
My Barix Clinics Experience
I cannot say enough about my surgeon and the team of exceptional professionals he has working with him. Each one exceeded my expectations as a professional. Their care, sensitivity, knowledge, skill level and compassion brought a tremendous amount of confidence and security as I faced what was a scary life-changing procedure to improve my over-all health. I remember each one used human touch, eye contact, a smile and an assuring, calming and confident voice.
From the first day I walked in Barix Clinics, I was treated with respect and understanding. It was the start of eliminating the shame I had felt for decades.
My Life After Surgery
My overall health and quality of life has completely changed! I have a new found confidence to try new things and live life! I now ride my bike, kayak, parasail, click an airplane seatbelt (and have 12 inches of extra belt), keep up with 26-third graders, and am not afraid to wear a swim suit. I no longer fear doctor appointments or procedures. I am healthy and enjoying life!
