Gastric Bypass | 2005 My Life Before Bariatric Surgery I was one of six girls in my family and the only “obese” one. A women’s size 16 as a freshman in high school, I always struggled with weight issues. I was made fun of at home and in school. There was not a day that went by that I did not think about my size. |
I married and spent thousands of dollars on fertility…while being told to lose the weight! I was eventually diagnosed with PCOS and ballooned to a women’s size 24 and 262 lbs. I would avoid social situations out of embarrassment and activities with my children because of physical limitations. At age 46 my oldest son announced his engagement. At that point, I decided I would NOT be the FAT mother of the groom and that it was time to do something!
Making the Decision
I had tried every conceivable diet out there, only to lose and gain back what I had lost…plus! After researching bariatric surgery, I felt like it was the perfect tool for me to achieve PERMANENT weight loss. I wanted to have my surgery performed at a facility and by a surgeon specializing in bariatric surgery. I attended a bariatric surgery seminar at Barix Clinic and was SOLD!
My Barix Clinics Experience
Words cannot describe my experience with the Barix Clinic. From my initial meeting with a counselor and surgeon, to my prep, surgery, and recovery…my experience was first class, A+, top notch! I felt so well prepared ahead of time and so well taken care of post-op and follow up. My husband is in the medical profession (a Dentist) and I remember as he put me in the car two days after surgery to take me home…he turned and looked at the building and said to me “I have never seen such a first class operation”. The close contact with the nutritionist from pre-surgery to the day of surgery until weeks afterward was so wonderful.
How My Life Has Changed
Life after surgery has been nothing short of AMAZING! I feel as though I have been given a new life and I’m enjoying every moment. There is NO going back…I follow the food and exercise plan and still refer to the “Guide to Good Health” bible that I was given prior to surgery. I have made a lifestyle change and although 10+ years post-op, I still work at it every single day! My husband has gone from being married to that obese woman to being told he has a trophy wife! I go to the gym every day, run countless 5K and 10K races, have completed one triathlon, run three half marathons and have participated in a three day, 300 mile (100 miles a day) bicycle ride for Make-A-Wish Foundation every July for the past five years! I am now an active participant in life!
