Gastric Bypass | 2002 My Life Before Bariatric Surgery My life before surgery was all about eating. Food was the center of my life—everything and anything revolved around food. As my weight climbed, my confidence fell. My confidence level sunk so low that I didn’t go out—I didn’t want to stand out. |
My health suffered too. My blood pressure was high. I barley could walk to the corner. I felt like I was too fat to move. Doing any task had become a chore. I had reason to be concerned–my mom and my sister both had a heart attack at 54. My sister later died of heart failure and I was following in her footsteps.
Making the Decision
My husband and I made the decision together. There wasn’t a bypass surgeon on every corner as there is today. At that time, Barix Clinics was called Bariatric Treatment Center. They’re the best, because that’s all they do. I wanted the best surgeons and the best program for my weight loss surgery, so I chose Barix Clinics.
My Barix Clinics Experience
They answered every concern I had and I went into surgery confident that I was going to have the best care possible. I wasn’t disappointed; the care I received was exceptional. My husband appreciated they way that he was kept informed. The nurses helped me with everything before and after surgery. I’m not sure if my nurse had other patients or not, but I felt like I was the only one she was taking care of. Everyone was so wonderful and helpful. At my doctor’s appointments after surgery, I learned how to eat the right things.
I was treated like family–better than family every step of the way. Barix Clinics gave me a tool, weight loss surgery, and taught me how to use it. I chose to have therapy and that provided me with moral support as I learned how and what to eat. My surgeon saved my life!
How My Life Has Changed
It’s been 14 years since my surgery and I’ll never go back to the way my life way. I lived with obesity for 47 years. My surgeon saved my life the day I had surgery. It was the best thing I’ve ever done and I wouldn’t change anything. My life after surgery is great. I feel good other than the usual aches and pains of being 60. I have 2 grandchildren that I’m thankful to be alive for. I can even run and play with them.
I can walk into any store and buy whatever I want! I have been in a size 6 for the last 6 or 7 years. I wore a 2 piece bathing suit!!!! I wish I would have done it a lot sooner. My life is so good.
To Someone Considering Bariatric Surgery
Make sure you’re serious and ready to make changes. You will never regret it. Always remember you can do anything you set your mind to. I have seen life on both sides and there is nothing that I would change except for doing it younger!!
