Gastric Sleeve | 2016 My Life Before Bariatric Surgery I had a very active lifestyle. I was a mail carrier and participated in many outdoor activities. My active life was severely hampered when I was in a motor vehicle accident. The accident resulted in back surgery, from which I suffer from chronic back pain and became medically disabled. I also had sleep apnea. |
Making the Decision
My husband had gastric bypass surgery and I had a front row seat to the pros and cons of weight loss surgery. We discussed this in detail and I made the decision to have surgery. When he unexpectedly passed away in July of 2016, I almost canceled my surgery. After careful consideration, I decided to go ahead with the surgery. I am so glad I did.
I looked at both the gastric sleeve and the gastric bypass surgeries very closely and decided on the gastric sleeve. I live in Northern Michigan and a very rural area so I felt the gastric sleeve was a better fit for my lifestyle.
My Barix Clinics Experience
My experience with Barix Clinics was amazing. From my very first phone call inquiring about surgery to the very end of the process, I cannot say enough wonderful things about all of the people I encountered during my journey.
I would highly recommend my surgeon. He was a kind and gentle soul, very knowledgeable, and a great surgeon. He definitely cares about his patients. During my stay at the hospital, all the nurses and other staff members were kind and considerate.
I also got all the newsletters and helpful hints regarding success of the surgery and after care. I love the Facebook support group.
My Life After Surgery
My life has greatly improved since surgery. I will always have back pain, but it has made a huge difference losing the weight. I can walk longer distances without becoming winded. I no longer have sleep apnea. Plus I love going shopping for clothes now.
To Someone Considering Surgery
Make sure you do this for yourself and no one else. It is life changing. It’s not the easy way out, and it will take work, but if you make that commitment you will be forever grateful. Just know you are not alone.
