Barix Clinics Advantage
- Training
The Barix Clinics program has developed the most comprehensive training program for bariatric surgeons. Every surgeon, regardless of his or her previous bariatric surgery experience, must complete this program to perform surgery at our hospitals. - Experience
With almost 30 years experience and more than 50,000 patient surgeries performed, Barix Clinics is the most experienced program providing bariatric surgery in America. Barix Clinics of Michigan has performed more weight loss surgeries than any other bariatric surgery program in Michigan. - Safest place for surgery
Because of the experience of our doctors and staff, the complication rates at our Michigan hospital are 73% lower than the national average. It’s one of the many reasons why Barix Clinics was rated #1 in patient safety by CareChex® for the entire Midwest for 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. - Caring and compassionate individual care
Just as important as expert surgical care is the way in which you will be treated by the entire staff. Our patients sum it up best—respect, trust, family, comfort, expert care, non-judgmental, and individual attention. - High Satisfaction Rates
Independent studies show that Barix Clinics patients are incredibly satisfied following their surgeries. At their one-year follow up, over 90% of gastric bypass patients and 85% of gastric sleeve patients state that they are “very satisfied” with their surgery results; over 97% claim to be either very satisfied or somewhat satisfied.

Making the Decision
After you contact Barix Clinics we will set up a consultation for you with a surgeon who will discuss the type of weight loss surgery that fits best with your health history. At your consultation your surgeon will discuss the following bariatric surgery options:
- Gastric bypass (also known as Roux-en-Y gastric bypass) is the most commonly performed bariatric surgery. It helps you lose weight by surgically decreasing the size of the stomach, decreasing hunger hormones, and bypassing part of the small intestine. Recent studies have found that gastric bypass surgery works better than medication at resolving Type 2 diabetes and other insulin-related illnesses.
- Adjustable gastric band surgery (also known as lap band surgery, LAP-BAND® and Realize® Band) is a restrictive surgery. Lap band surgery reduces the amount of food that can be eaten at a meal and helps you feel full longer—which may allow you to eat less and lose weight.
- Gastric sleeve surgery (also known as sleeve gastrectomy) helps patients lose weight by reducing the stomach size and hunger hormones present in the stomach. Most patients lose 60-80% of their excess weight.
