My Life Before Bariatric Surgery

My life before surgery was very grey. On the outside, I was the nicest person in the world with the biggest heart. It appeared to others that I let the bullying that I experienced bounce right off of me. The inside was a different story though.

My Life Before Bariatric Surgery

I suffered with self-blame and depression.  The bullying ate away at the little self-confidence I had. Sometimes I was so upset, angry with myself, for being overweight, that I ate large amounts of food just to hurt myself. To the world, I was happy and outgoing while I suffered through these things privately.  I longed for a change—to have my inside match the person I was on the outside.

Making the Decision

The negative impact of my weight on every part of my life, from my relationships to my health and everything in between, was really getting to me. I had sleep apnea, joint pain, high blood pressure and pre-diabetes. I stood in line at Cedar Point for 3 hours only to be denied getting on the ride. At my weight, I didn’t just need a seatbelt extender, I had to purchase 2 seats—needless to say my travel was limited.

My mom had weight loss surgery, so I was familiar with it. She had encouraged me to have surgery, but I wasn’t ready. I watched her blossom as she shed her extra weight. It was really inspiring to see the changes in her. Finally, enough was enough and I made the call.

My Barix Clinics Experience

I felt very comfortable with my surgeon from the first time I met with him. He helped me find the best option that would help me maximize my weight loss and supported me throughout the entire process. Everyone at Barix Clinics was on the same page—I really appreciated that.

My Life After Surgery

I always wanted my inside to match my outside—now I have that. My weight no longer holds me back. I am full of life and can do anything that I want to do. Cedar Point, here I come!

To Those Considering Surgery

I’m telling my story in the hope that it will inspire others to consider weight loss surgery. I was afraid of surgery. If I could do it, you can to. I have found that health is wealth. If you have your good health, you have everything you need.
